Did a 6 minute warm up. a little stretching. Did about 6-8 strides. guy blew the horn and I went out with mike, rob, and Pro-woman Triathlete. Rob dropped back behind me after the first mile. We went out too fast with mike. I stuck with mike past the 2K. then the woman passed me. on the rail trail mike was reeling in this tattooed dude with the woman. At the turn around right by the two mile rob caught back up to me we ran together until we passed the old stone bridge by the golf course. At that point rob was trying to stay with the old tank top dude. Meanwhile i caught my breath/composure/runners edge. At this point in the race I could barely see mike the pro-woman or tattoo dude. I hung on best I could. Little did I know Nick was behind me and closing a 40 second gap. I continued to run down the strait street with a slight head wind. Then i came to Jess and christie at the last intersection cheering me on. It was then that stammered up the courage to start pumping my arms harder to pick up my pace. Nick did the same when he got to the spot but he couldn't catch up to me. And I finished 6th overall. Placings were Mike, Tattoo dude, Pro-woman, tank top guy, rob, me, then nick. During cool down mike nick Alex and some woman we picked up on the rail trail ran for 25:36
Notes: I felt good, I wasn't too hot(heat). Although I felt like I was running off my heels and leaning back. I couldn't get comfortable leaning forward while on the rail trail. I got a bloody toe in my x-c spikes (of course the spikes were all out, I had no sock on). There was lots of free food. Including hot dogs(w/ ketchup), granola bars, bananas, capri sun, water, and little bags of chips of all sorts.
Results: I got a bloody toe, a certificate, a nice shiny new balance mug, food, and a fun last college running event.
